A brand new event for the miniature world as the Eastleigh Lakeside Railway held a 'GOLDEN ARROW' celebration weekend on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June 2022. Star attraction at the event was SNCF De Glen Nord 'Compound' 4-6-2 No.3.1192 from the Simkins family and the first time it's pulled passenger trains in around 20 years. It was appropriately attired with the 'FLECHE D'OR' headboard. Joining the visitor were SR LN-class 'Lord Nelson' 4-6-0 No.E850 "Lord Nelson" & SR 'Merchant Navy'-class 4-6-2 No.21C1 "Channel Packet" with BR 'Britannia'-class 4-6-2 No.70055 "Rob Roy" on display and LBSCR 'Atlantic' 4-4-2 No.1908 "Ernest Henry Upton" on 'Thunderbird' duties. Like the 'Nord', 'Nelson' and the 'Merchant' were carrying the appropriate headboard with 'Nelson' having the 'GOLDEN ARROW' whilst "Channel Packet" carried the 'GOLDEN ARROW' headboard and side arrows in the mornings before switching to the 'NIGHT FERRY' in the afternoons. In addition to the normal running, three sets of 'specials' were run during the days with loco swaps in and out of Platform 3 at Eastleigh Parkway between "Lord Nelson" and the 'Nord' to simulate the taking over of locos; a 'LAKES EXPRESS' double-reverse run ran on the Sunday with the 'Nord' during the afternoon with the end of days featuring a special each. Saturday had a parallel run with "Lord Nelson" and the 'Nord' whilst on Sunday the pair double-headed a 20+ coach special non stop around the railway. Sequences in this video are as follows... - "Rob Roy" on static display in the yard at Eastleigh Parkway. - "Channel Packet" morning runs with the 'GOLDEN ARROW'. - "Lord Nelson" & 'Nord" swapping sets on the Platform 3 runs. - "Ernest Henry Upton" covers spare set of coaches whilst the Platform 3 runs take place. - 'Nord' on regular passenger runs plus 'LAKES EXPRESS' - "Lord Nelson" on regular passenger runs - "Channel Packet" afternoon runs with the 'NIGHT FERRY' - "Lord Nelson" & 'Nord" parallel and double-headed 20+coach specials.
