http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Odessa Orthodox Cathedral, usually referred to as "Transfiguration Cathedral" by locals, is visited by tourists paying their respects to Prince Mikhail Vorontsov who was buried here in 1856. Viking passengers visited on a Sunday and couldn't get into the cathedral because of church services. Instead, we began browsing through the weekly souvenir and craft market around the perimeter and in front of the church where locals were selling apples and crafts made from apples. Church bells suddenly began ringing and Bishops, Priests and Deacons marched out of the church, singing, chanting prayers, carrying censers with burning incense and crucifixes, while masses of people followed behind. The procession slowly led around Transfiguration Cathedral, stopping to bless people at intervals. It was Apple Holiday in Odessa, a yearly celebration for which I could get no further information other than...it was Apple Holiday... All righty then...
