I have seen Sam on past sailings, but I did not really get to connect with him until this sailing on Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady. I had set aside about 90 minutes to film a walk-through tour video, but the entire thing ended up taking over six hours. During one of the much-needed breaks, I finally had the chance to chat with him about scuba diving. Sam is from Honduras, and diving Roatán has always been on my radar. He has logged over 600 dives, which is so impressive - even for me, and I have only about 200. I told him the story of how one time I packed all of my scuba gear for a Virgin Voyages sailing, only to realize I had forgotten to pack actual clothes. Although, to be fair, I think wearing a 2.5 mm wetsuit in The Manor might be a pretty great look for one of the themed parties. What I love most about Sam is his energy. Even this morning, when I walked past him in The Galley, he asked me if I was having a good day. I had just woken up, I was tired, and I told him I wasn’t sure. Without missing a beat, Sam reminded me, “Every day is the best day to have the best day.” So today, that is exactly what I decided to do.
