YouTube Video Description↓

Renowned Italian ocean liner historian Maurizio Eliseo takes the viewer on a personally guided, exclusive tour of "The Sea Of Paper" exhibit in Trieste illustrating the great Italian liners from the Unification of Italy to the mid-1960s. Beautiful advertising artworks meant to inspire sea travel depict an armada of ships including Lloyd Sabaudo's "four counts" BIANCAMANO, ROSSO, VERDE and GRANDE, Cosulich's SATURNIA and VULCANIA, NGI's ROMA and AUGUSTUS and Italia's superliners REX and CONTE DI SAVOIA. Postwar ships include those of Adriatica, Lloyd Triestino, Italia, Lauro, Costa and many more up to the LEONARDO DA VINCI and MICHELANGELO/RAFFAELLO. Eliseo's magnificent model of REX, which he started building at age 15 and finished at age 20, is also heavily featured, along with his friendship with Federico Fellini, whose movie "Amacord" featured the REX and inspired the young Eliseo. The exhibit is gone now but it will live on here and in the hearts of those who were able to visit it at the Museum of Ideas in Trieste between 21 September and 17 November 2024. #italianoceanliners #trieste #lloydsabaudo #cosulich #oceanlinerart #classicships #italianline #adriatica #Lloydtriestino #maurizioeliseo
