If your ship is docking in Puerto Vallarta and you’re wondering whether to stay near the port, book a shore excursion, or head into town on your own, this video walks you through exactly what we did and how you can copy it (or tweak it) for your own visit. We start right at Puerto Magico, the main cruise terminal in Puerto Vallarta. You’ll see what it’s like to walk off the ship into the indoor shopping complex with souvenir stores, tequila and vanilla shops, jewelry, snacks, and coffee. We talk about the kind of tours you can buy inside the terminal if you didn’t prebook with the cruise line or with partners like Viator and GetYourGuide, and how to decide whether a last-minute tour makes sense for your schedule and budget. Then we head outside into the open-air flea market and restaurant area so you can see what shopping and food options are available if you want to stay close to the ship. From there, we leave the port complex, hit the main road, and grab an Uber to downtown. Uber works very well in Puerto Vallarta and is usually one of the cheapest and easiest ways to get from Puerto Magico to the Malecon. We also talk about using regular taxis from the port, how to agree on a fare, and roughly how long the ride into town takes. Our walking tour starts near Rosita Beach at The Millennia statue on the Malecon, Puerto Vallarta’s famous oceanfront pedestrian walkway. The day wraps up at Los Muertos Beach Pier with wide views of the bay before we call an Uber back to Puerto Magico, do one last pass through the port complex, and head back on board.
