Sailing deep into Alaska’s Endicott Arm fjord aboard Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas, we wake up early to experience one of the most breathtaking glacier encounters in Alaska — Dawes Glacier. ❄️🏔️ Our scheduled glacier viewing window was between 5:00 AM and 10:00 AM, so we set our alarms for 4:30 AM and left our stateroom by 5:20 AM to soak in the stunning snow-capped mountains, waterfalls, and icy fjord walls of Endicott Arm. Around 6:30 AM, the excitement builds as announcements confirm we’re nearing Dawes Glacier. Between 6:40 AM and 7:20 AM, the ship reaches its closest point to the glacier, performs a dramatic 180-degree turn, and slowly sails back out — making this the absolute peak time to see the glacier and potential calving. Even after the turn, we stayed outside until 9:30 AM, walking the ship’s outdoor track for nearly four hours as we cruised back through Endicott Arm, enjoying nonstop views of glaciers, mountains, and wildlife. In this video, we share: • ✅ Best time to wake up for Dawes Glacier • ✅ Where to stand on Quantum of the Seas for the best views • ✅ What to wear for cold, windy glacier mornings • ✅ Viewing tips most cruisers miss We also booked the North Star Premium Extended Tour at 6:40 AM ($409), which takes you 300 feet above sea level, making it the highest viewing point at sea. While a full North Star tour video is coming soon, this video includes exclusive clips and glacier views from the North Star to help you decide if it’s worth it. If you’re cruising Alaska on Quantum of the Seas and don’t want to miss Dawes Glacier, this video will help you plan it perfectly.
