YouTube Video Description

On January 3, 2023, Carnival Cruise Line sent an email to booked passengers announcing another round of price increases and the dates they’ll go into effect. Internet plans go up in price starting January 16, 2023 and daily Gratuities will go up in price effective April 1, 2023. If you’re thinking, “Wait a minute, didn’t Carnival just raise prices on the Internet plans?” you’d be right. Back in October of 2022, the line raised prices between 15-30% on these plans. So to see prices increase again so soon is a bit of a shock. When you start to do the math on just how much these prices have increased from pre-pandemic, it starts becoming much more expensive to cruise. What hadn’t increased in a bit had been Gratuities. With that said, we’ve been expecting news from Carnival with other lines recently hiking their daily rates (Norwegian jumping all the way up to $20/day or $25/day for the Haven). With today’s price increases, Premium Internet and Gratuities for 2 on a 7-day cruise will run you $485. Ouch. It should be noted, the most frustrating part of today’s news – apart from the costs increasing again so soon – is the fact that services have been reduced onboard Carnival. That means you are paying more per day for less service. So the next time you see a great price on a cruise, just keep in mind that you’ll actually be paying more and getting less. Inflation and shrinkflation at the same time. What are your thoughts on today’s news? Leave a comment below.
