the parks are not about escapism they are about reassurance the things can be done right that you can talk to a stranger in a public place that a public place can be clean

theme design is applied to the amusement park so we might build roller coasters but it's not meant to be a roller coaster anymore it's meant to be a bob sled run down the mat horn

the term theme park wasn't coined until four years after Disneyland opened the term theme park wasn't used until 1959 and before that Disneyland was just called an amusement park
