Discover Maryhill, Washington! Stonehenge, Wineries, Camping and a World-Class Museum!

Maryhill, Washington has wineries, fruit orchards, historical abandoned buildings, a life-size replica of Stonehenge (the one from England), campgrounds, and a world-class art museum. This is all amazing since Maryhill is an unincorporated community of 44 people. According to the last census. We are camping at Peach Beach and are hanging out in Maryhill, Washington and The Dalles, Oregon for two nights to get some rest from the Watershed Festival that we just came from. Having fun is hard work and we deserve a break. We check out the local wineries, breweries, tap houses, historical sites and memorials. Maryhill has one of the best seasonal fruit stands in area. Fresh fruits, salsas, jams, jellies and other treats are made available for purchase. Down the road just less than a minute away is an abandoned gas station and historical church. Continuing up the road, over the railroad tracks, climbing up the hill is Samuel Hill's life-size replica of Stonehenge dedicated to the local fallen soldiers of WWI. You will find that Samuel Hill is one of the most interesting historical figures not just locally but world-wide. He is the reason people exclaim "What in the Sam Hill!" He is considered father of the highways and his hard work is all up and down the Columbia River Gorge and down to Central Oregon. West of the memorial on highway 14 is the Maryhill Art Museum. This world-class museum showcases some of Queen Marie of Romania's belongings and valuables. There are several other historical displays that are amazing and should not be missed if traveling alone the Columbia River Gorge. Expect to spend more than a few hours here touring the grounds and admiring the artifacts. We do some wine tasting at the Maryhill Winery and Cascade Cliffs Winery just down state hwy 14 a few more miles more. These local wineries are considered some of the best in the Pacific Northwest. We cross the river to Oregon and check out The Dalles. Here we visit breweries, taphouses and grab a burger. Freebridge Brewing was fun and had a great Gose. This sour beer was called Slap N Pickle a was surprisingly good, considering it did indeed taste like a pickle! We grad another beer and a bite to eat at Rivertap Restuarant and Pub. The food in the video was more delicious than it looked. The next night in The Dalles we had a beer at Clock Tower Ales then went to Big Jim's Drive-in. There, at Big Jim's, they make all their food fresh and never frozen. We park overlooking the dam and unfortunately for a local marina, watched a fire along the river. Camping at Peach Beach was enjoyable. The hosts were great, and we talked into the night hanging out with good friends. Easily accessible for larger rigs, we had no issue parking the motorhome. We had full hook-ups. There is a dump station for those travels that didn't have sewer. Most all the sites have at least power and water. The Maryhill State Park also has camping, but we enjoy the personal touches of the owners and the company of the hosts at Peach Beach. If you travel on I-84, take the Samuel Hill Memorial Bridge. If you are traveling on State Route 14 turn at Hwy 97 south, to Biggs Junction. These road-side attractions are not to be missed!
