⛄️ Disney’s future plans for Olaf are going to make waves. And this is a big deal. The free-roaming Olaf robotic character just debuted at Disney Adventure World in Paris, and Disney has now confirmed he's headed to Hong Kong Disneyland in early May. But Olaf’s world tour does not stop there. Fast Company reports that Imagineering has plans to roll out Olaf globally, including domestic U.S. parks. So, yes, the amazing Robo-Olaf will arrive at Disneyland and Disney World - we just don’t know when. But the Fast Company article has a very interesting detail: Disney is also planning to bring Olaf to Disney Cruise Line. And this is a bigger deal than it sounds: Animatronics aren’t really a thing on DCL like they are at the parks. Yes, there is an Olaf animatronic rolled around on a cart during the Arendelle dinner show on the Wish. But that’s a far cry from all the animatronics and robotics that parks fans get to enjoy. And it makes sense. With such limited space and weight constraints on a cruise ship, permanently installing audio-animatronics on a ship would be an engineering nightmare. But Imagineering’s new class of small, self-balancing, free-roaming robots create a new avenue for Disney to bring characters to life at sea. The BD Droids have already made test appearances on Disney Cruise Line. Olaf proves that was just the beginning. Think about what this actually unlocks. This upgraded Olaf could fit well in the Arendelle dinner show on the Disney Wish AND be able to greet guests in the Grand Hall. Or imagine completely new characters roaming the decks of next year's Disney Believe. Imagineering's goal, per Kyle Laughlin, is delivering that "huggable moment" with Olaf. And for the first time, the technology can go wherever guests are, even in the middle of the ocean. So what character do you most want to see roaming a Disney Cruise Line ship? Let me know. ⚓ #DisneyParks #Animatronics #DisneyCruiseLine #Imagineering #disneyworld
