Then, journey to the ancient ฤฆaฤกar Qim Temples, some of the oldest free-standing structures in the world. Enjoy the serene countryside and picturesque views, and uncover the mysteries of this fascinating island. Arriving in Birgu, I was immediately charmed by its timeless appeal. Narrow cobblestone streets wound through the town, lined with ancient stone buildings and colourful balconies with blooming flowers. My destination, the Malta Maritime Museum, was housed in the former Royal Naval Bakery, an impressive structure dating back to the early 19th century. The ฤฆaฤกar Qim Temples, dating back to around 3600 BCE, are among the oldest free-standing structures in the world. As I walked through the site, I marvelled at the massive limestone blocks, some weighing several tons, that had been skillfully arranged to create this ancient complex. The intricately carved stone altars, megalithic doorways, and the alignment of the structures with the solstices showcased the temple builders' advanced engineering and astronomical knowledge.
