The fourth day of our cruise to the Norwegian Fjords aboard the Cunard cruise liner MS "Queen Victoria" from Friday 13th to Saturday 21st July 2012. Day 4 saw us in our first major Fjord Port of Call: Flåm. Located deep down inside the Sognefjord, Flåm is only a one-berth port meaning that only one ship can use it. Any others visiting at the same time have to drop anchor a short way off the shore and the passengers must be taken ashore using the ship's tenders. On Monday 16th July - the day of our visit to Flåm - the berth was taken up by 'Costa Cruises's "Costa Luminosa" so "Queen Victoria" had to anchor and have her passengers taken ashore by the tenders. Flåm's most famous and popular tour is the Flåm Railway which runs high up through the mountains to Mydral on the Bergen to Oslo line. The tour that I went on did not go all the way up to Mydral but instead got off at Vatnahalsen where we visited the Hotel for tea and waffles. Later returning back to Flåm, stopping on both legs beside the Kjosfossen Waterfall and seeing the Huldra dancing beside it. After returning to "Queen Victoria" we turn on the spot and head back out down the Sognefjord towards the open sea and to our next stop at Geiranger. "Costa Luminosa" cast off shortly after we'd set off and would be following us all the way to Geiranger, although she was not due to arrive until a few hours after us.
