I decide to follow the dead-end road to see what the Port Canaveral Lock is all about. If nothing else, you can see how living in a van can make you more social and not afraid to go up to strangers and just start talking with them. :) Also, a correction...we are actually on the Barrier Island and Merritt Island is what we see in the distance across the Banana River.
