From the port of Kusadasi, Turkey or Turkiye, it is only a short drive to the ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the largest cities of the ancient world. Believed to have been founded in the 10th century by Greeks, it grew under Persian, Hellenistic and Roman rule. It was the capital of Roman Asia Minor and was an important city for trade, culture and early Christianity. While visiting Ephesus, you can walk on the same marble road that the Apostles Paul and John and the Virgin Mary used to traverse the city. Also in it's history, it played host to Antony and Cleopatra who would have walked the same marble street. It was home to the Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world as well as many now-famous temple, fountain and building ruins and facades, none more famous than the Library of Celsus facade. One of the more interesting buildings tourist can visit is the public toilets, where men would sit and discuss politics and topics of the day on one of 44 side-by-side toilet holes. There is so much to see here, a cruise excursion only gives a taste of what is there. Ephesus is also home to several stray dogs and cats that are fed and cared for and mostly uninterested in the tourists watching them. Even a famous cat with it's own instagram, The Garfield of Ephesus, sits on columns and dutifully ignores people! For anyone interested in history, early Christianity, architecture and the tales ruins can tell, this is a must visit. #turkey #ephesus #ancienthistory #ancientcivilizations #ancient #ancientcities #ancientcity #travel #templeofartemis #earlychristianity Music from YouTube Audio Library Chapters 00:00 Introduction 01:04 Entering Ephesus 03:37 Ancient Port of Ephesus 04:17 Temple of Domitian 04:45 Curetes Street, the Main Street 05:10 Original Marble Road 06:22 Fountain of Trajan 07:02 Mosaic-Paved Sidewalk 08:00 Hadrian's Temple 09:07 Public Toilets...all 44 10:20 Hadrian's Gate 10:31 Library of Celsus 11:16 Commercial Agora & Marble Street 11:58 Large Theater 13:34 Leaving Ephesus 14:11 Temple of Artemis Ruins from the bus 14:23 Uninterested Cats and A Video You May Like!
