Creator's Key Takeaways

I have to be honest, I thought Troy was only a mythological place in Homer's poems until I saw it available on this cruise.

The site is so well done. It's laid out well and very easy to visit with signs throughout explaining each area and what you're looking at.

I must admit standing there, it was amazing to think I was standing among the ruins of Troy. The history nerd in me was beyond thrilled.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It was fascinating.

YouTube Video Description↓

Before visiting Ancient Troy in what is now Turkey, I thought the city was a myth, created by Homer for his Trojan War and Trojan Horse story in the Iliad. Archeologists searched for the legendary city until a German archeologist found part of it and later excavations discovered the entire city - or cities and it is now generally agreed that this is the spot of the famous and legendary Ancient Troy. There are actually nine different incarnations of Troy, with each being destroyed and rebuilt over its 5000 year history. Homer's (or Homeric) Troy is Troy VI (6). Still an active archeological site, there are recreations of some areas using both old and new building materials. From the original Troy's city walls to a Roman theatre, I found these ruins fascinating and the history nerd in me was thrilled. So much can be learned about all of the ancient Troys, such as the defences were formidable, with small entrances to thick wooden gates where there was no room for a battering ram and many gates to acess. Troy is accessed from Canakkale if visiting from a cruise ship and is a must-see if you are interested in ancient history and legends. #troy #ancienthistory #ancienttroy #turkey #cruiseship #turkiye #travel #homer #trojanhorse #trojanwar Music from YouTube Audio Chapters 00:00 Introduction 00:14 Ruins of Troy I Through IX 12:31 Canakkale 13:58 Another Video You May Like
