Exploring Athens, Port of Piraeus - A bucket list destination?

Are you looking for #Thingstodoinathens when visiting on a cruise? Athens is a bucket list destination for us . The chance to visit the cradle of Greek Civilisation was something we couldnt miss. We normally like to explore on our own but our reseacrh showed us it was easier to access the Acropolis on a paid tour/excursion. So we did that and loved every minute. Having the guide helped us gain quick and easier access but also provide context and explanation to the many structures and artifacts. The Acroposlis lived up to expectations but our tour also took us into downtown Athens and dropped us off to do some exploring on our own. Wow Athens is some place! We explored Athens oldest district - The Plaka which is rich in culture and ancient ruins as well as providing a real buzz from the bars shops and cafes. Finally our guide took us to the olympic stadium before taking us back to Piareus and the ship which is 15Km away.
