We had NO idea a place like this existed right here in Portland Oregon — and then a Heron caught a FROG right in front of us! 🐸 And just wait until you see our surprise guest at the end... Terry and Lidia here! Today we're exploring Whitaker Ponds Natural Area in Portland, Oregon — a stunning free nature park tucked away in Northeast Portland along the Columbia Slough. If you're looking for things to do in Portland Oregon that feel like a real escape from the city, this is it. Whitaker Ponds is home to two beautiful freshwater ponds surrounded by a native black cottonwood forest, a peaceful half-mile loop trail, an eco-roof covered gazebo, and an observation dock where you can watch wildlife up close. And trust us — the wildlife here does NOT disappoint! During our visit we had an absolutely incredible encounter with a Great Blue Heron — we watched it hunt, catch, and eat a frog right before our eyes. We honestly couldn't believe what we were witnessing! The whole thing was captured on video and it is something you just have to see. And just when we thought the visit couldn't get any better… a raccoon showed up to say hello! What a finish to a perfect afternoon.
