After docking in Dominica — a port known for welcoming smaller ships and fewer crowds — we travel north along the scenic coastline through local fishing villages before heading inland into the cool highlands near Morne Diablotin National Park. Our first stop is the Syndicate Nature Trail, a gentle rainforest hike surrounded by towering trees, tropical plants, and incredible biodiversity. With our knowledgeable local guide, we learn about Dominica’s farming traditions, wildlife, and the famous parrots that live in this region. Dominica is known as the “Nature Island of the Caribbean” for good reason — with 365 rivers, countless waterfalls, and even active volcanoes, it’s one of the most unspoiled cruise destinations in the Caribbean. The adventure continues with a river-crossing trek to Milton Falls. After navigating rocky crossings (water shoes highly recommended!), we reach a powerful jungle waterfall tucked deep in the rainforest. The mist, the sound of rushing water, and the dramatic gorge setting make this one of the most impressive waterfalls we’ve experienced on a Royal Caribbean cruise. This stop in Dominica was part of our anniversary cruise, and after previously visiting for the Titou Gorge Swim and Hot Springs, we weren’t sure anything could compare.
