--~-- A Jamaica Travel Advisory has been issued by the Canadian Government. The warning states that the increase in violent crime in the areas of St. James parish, including Montego Bay, Hanover parish and Westmoreland parish, including Negril, led to the extended emergency status. The Jamaican government has also implemented a “state of emergency” designation for St. Andrew parish, which includes the Kingston area, until Oct. 5. Exercise extreme caution if traveling to, or cruising to these areas in Jamaica. It is recommended that travelers carry valid ID at all times, avoid going outside of resort areas after dark and walk around in groups, cooperate with local authorities and monitor local news to stay up-to-date on how the situation evolves. Tourists should also avoid taking public transit and unmarked taxis, and should be particularly cautious when paying with a credit card or using an ATM.
