With major cruise lines releasing recommendations to the CDC and making plans for future sailings, there were plenty of cruise ship headlines this past week. Catch-up with all of the developments in this weekβs cruise news updates for September 27th. If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP! Last Monday was the deadline for public comment to the CDC regarding a return to cruising in the United States. So, it shouldnβt be a surprise that all the major cruise lines submitted recommendations for a safe resumption of cruises. Among the leaders was the Healthy Sail Panel, a joint partnership between Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line, which released a detailed report with 74 recommendations. Among the suggestions were COVID-19 tests prior to embarkation, facial coverings while indoors, as well as reduction in passenger capacity and increased sanitation protocols. In other cruise ship news, Princess Cruises confirmed that two ships from its fleet were sold. Carnival Corporation announced last week that it was now getting rid of 18 ships as part of its companyβs policy to dispose of inefficient vessels. So, we were not surprised when Princess Cruises announced that Sun Princess and Sea Princess, 20+ year old ships, were leaving the fleet. All cruises through April 2021 have been cancelled on these two vessels. Both Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line announced new itineraries and deployment schedules for future cruises. Royal Caribbean made several changes to its Summer 2021 cruise season. These changes included updates to ships in Europe and the Caribbean. Norwegian Cruise Line released its 2022-2023 Winter season. The cruise line made itineraries available for the Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, the Panama Canal, and Europe. Among the more interesting cruises were voyages from South Africa, as well as Antarctica cruises. Lastly, we received more cruise ship news about Viking Mississippi. This long awaited new U.S. based river ship from Viking is set to sail in 2022. This upcoming week, the cruise line is hosting the cruise shipβs designer in a live stream to talk about his inspiration and design details for this custom built vessel. The cruise line also announced new special Christmas 2022 cruise, sailing from Memphis, TN to New Orleans, LA.
