While most of the cruise updates indicated that cruise ships could start sailing again soon, there were also more cancellations announced. We cover all of the big cruise ship news and latest headlines in our Cruise News for October 4th video. If you enjoy the video, please make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP! In Carnival Cruise Line news, the company’s president, Christine Duffy, took to social media to update travel advisors about the line’s plans. Among her announcements was a list of health protocols that Carnival Cruise Line plans to implement once the brand starts sailing. Along with these new procedures, the cruise line officially cancelled all remaining U.S. based cruises for the rest of the year, except for sailings from Miami, FL and Port Canaveral, FL. Ms. Duffy was optimistic that the select cruises from these two ports will be able to sail sometime this year. In other Carnival cruise updates, the line’s newest ship set sail for the first time. Carnival Mardi Gras began its sea trials last week. The ship will be out to sea for 10 days to complete a series of maneuvers which is a major milestone for the vessel. Hopefully, this means our February 6th cruise is still a possibility. Multiple media reports revealed that the CDC and Trump administration were at odds last week regarding the No Sail order. Finally, hours before the deadline, the CDC officially extended the travel ban on cruise ships until October 31st. This cancellation aligns to the current voluntary suspension of cruising from CLIA cruise lines. Still, following reports now divulge that the White House has removed the CDC’s ability to impose further restrictions. Cruise line officials will be meeting with the vice president’s task force to discuss plans for cruising to resume from U.S. ports. Though, this meeting could be further delayed due to the recent COVID-19 cases among government officials. In more positive cruise news this week, Princess Cruises finally took delivery of its newest ship. Enchanted Princess is the 5th Royal-class ship in the fleet. When the ship finally makes its way to the U.S., it will offer Caribbean itineraries. This mega-ship is home to the most whirlpools and pools of any Princess ship. It also features new dining and entertainment options, as well as Sky Suites with the largest balconies of any cabin category. Even with these recent developments, Virgin Voyages announced last week that it has decided to cancel all November sailings. The cruise line is offering guests the ability to receive a full refund of monies paid for the trip. Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady was originally scheduled for its maiden voyage back on April 1, 2020. Now, it looks like sailors will need to wait until at least December to check out this highly anticipated ship.
