Searching Hotel apps for Pre-Cruise hotels can be like dodging for a needle in a haystack if you have never been to the area, so clueless on if the descriptions match your needs, ESPECIALLY when it comes to LOCATION! Ocean Drive is where many movies are summoned and has a bustling day and nightlife that mimics the Las Vegas Strip... IF your hotel is in South Beach that is! Washington St is 2 blocks from Ocean Drive, Collins is right behind Ocean Dr, but once you get past 1,000 in the street address, Ocean Drive ends, and Collins becomes the only driveable street before the beach. You are now in North Beach, where the Ocean Drive outdoor restaurants and clubs no longer exist, and Uber/Lyft prices skyrocket for no good reason. Parking anywhere in both North and South Beach is paid garage parking or metered street parking. So if no handicap placard or other exemption, a rental car, though often cheaper than Uber/Lyft, may not be the best option, due to high parking expenses. Airport hotels often come up in search results AFTER the North and South Beach properties that give the address bonus of having something to do without having to travel far. (Just strep outside if in South Beach). Airport properties are either a few bucks for an Uber/Lyft, or over $20 and an over 20 minute ride, despite the description saying "Airport". Here's a look at a drive down Collins, where we identify many hotels you will see in search results, and a walk down Ocean Drivefit the same. We end in North Beach, at Oceanside Hotel ($61/night total, booked 2 nights), for an inside look at one of Miami's coolest and most comfortable boutique hotels in the heart of all the action.... if you have a rental car that is! Rule of thumb, of the address is under 1,000 it is South Beach and best choice. If over 1,000 it is North Beach. Where do you prefer to stay in Miami before a cruise? Help the viewers out by commenting with suggestions, both good and bad of properties you have stayed at in the past. Those you would recommend, and those you would run far, far away from! Our personal favorites? Whitelaw Hotel on Collins (often $86/night last minute) , Shelley Hotel a few steps down Collins from Whitelaw, but no elevator for around $10 more/night than Whitelaw, Majestic Hotel on Ocean Drive (rarely listed in low price search results, but only $112/ night when it is), and Clinton Hotel South Beach, on Washington with pool and elevators for under $90/ night last minute. 🌐 Email hwthbookings@gmail.com for booking!
