In this episode, we show the top things to do in Mombasa, Kenya. Our African voyage commences aboard Azamara Onward with two relaxing sea days before arriving in historic Mombasa, Kenya. Experience the charm of small-ship cruising, memorable dining, an Anzac Day sunrise service, and lively onboard activities. Then, explore Mombasa's Fort Jesus, Azamara's spectacular AzAmazing Evening, the Akamba woodcarving cooperative, and Haller Park. From rich maritime history and local culture to unforgettable giraffe feedings, this episode showcases the best of cruising and Kenya. In this series (a 17-nt cruise from Seychelles to Cape Town), we explore: Seychelles Toured the Takamaka Rum Distillery, wander through the lush Seychelles National Botanical Gardens, and discover local heritage at the National Museum of History. We also provide a tour of our hotel, Eden Bleu. Mombasa Two full days are spent exploring Mombasa, Kenya, including exploring lush trails, wildlife, and towering giraffes at Haller Park, a peaceful nature sanctuary created from reclaimed quarry land. Also toured the impressive Fort Jesus (1593) during daytime, but also six hours later after returnbing for the ‘AzAmazing evening’, a cultural show Azamara stages in local venues on most itineraries. Also toured Akamba Handicraft, a fascinating wood carving cooperative with dozens of skilled craftsmen. Tanzania Explored Jozani National Park, a tropical reserve for wildlife, forest and mangrove wetlands, then downtown to the Freddie Mercury Museum (2019), a small but well done exhibit of the lead singer of Queen. Mayotte Explored a scenic but othwerise so-so French island 300 miles off Mozambique. I hiked to and up the steep Pointe Mahabou for a view where wildflowers are prevalent, but mismanaged shrubbery atop rendered scenic ‘vistas’ at its summit as hard-to-find glimmers. Madagascar Explored vibrant Nosy Be, an island 5 miles off Madagascar’s northwest coast, and its capital, Andoany. Explored a local market after seeing the stars of the island - Lemurs, at a local sanctuary made for them. Richards Bay, South Africa Went on a proper game drive at Thula Thula Private Game Reserve, and saw elephants, rhino, giraffe, kudu, antelope, gnu, African buffalo and warthog. Durban, South Africa Missed port call due to severe weather forecast between Durban and Cape Town; Durban was canceled to arrive ahead of the storm. Cape Town Exploration over several days includes wine tasting in Paarl and Stellenbosch, visiting the scenic Cape of Good Hope, Boulders Beach Penguin Colony, Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and Two Oceans Aquarium, and iconic Table Mountain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember to subscribe to our channel, like (if you do of course), select the reminder bell & make comments - every comment will be answered. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feel free to join our FB Group, if you like, to further engage chatting about cruising: https://www.facebook.com/groups/innocentsabroad/about ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for watching! #mombasa #azamara #cruise 00:00 Start 02:28 Sea Days 04:05 Mombasa, Kenya 09:27 Fort Jesus 12:26 Mombasa Tusks 12:39 Uhura Park 13:21 Akamba Handicraft 15:21 AzAmazing Evening 23:25 Haller Park
