Hey, Cruisers, it’s Sheri from CruiseTipsTV. Today we give you the low down on Wave Season. Wave Season is the time of year when the Cruise Industry offer major sales, extra value packages and other incentives. If you are a savvy shopper that doesn’t mind doing a little extra research, then it’s really the perfect time for you to shop for your next cruise. It’s like Black Friday for cruisers; only it lasts a lot longer. When is this Black Friday of the seas? Typically wave season is January through March, but we’ve seen “Wave Season” deals advertised as early November, and as late as April. Why you ask does the cruise industry do this? Well, in January you have that bright and shiny New Year out on your horizon with perhaps no solid vacation plans. Maybe the cold weather has you dreaming warm sunny destinations. The cruise industry knows this syndrome all too well, and thinks you may need just an itty-bitty push to get you aboard. And that, my friends is where all these incentives come in. We all like to save money, and who doesn't love free perks? So, how can you take advantage? Well, really it does take some diligence. Roll up your sleeves and do the research. Talk to your travel agent, and compare deals online. Look carefully at cruise line’s promotion and compare it with the cost of the same sailing sold through an agent. Sometimes agencies will offer additional savings or incentives beyond what the lines are offering. It’s not always as simple as finding the lowest price. Sometimes you’ll need to make decisions based your personal preferences. Would you rather have an upgraded stateroom, or is a drink or dinner package better for you? There can be a lot to think about, but if you’re anything like me, shopping for and planning the cruise is all part of the fun. Be aware, all Wave Season’s are not equal. Typically if lines have good bookings, there is very little motivation for them to offer deep discounts. So, some years you may see deals and promotions that are really not that much different than those offered throughout the year.
