YIKES! DO I DARE ENTER THIS VOLCANO? A HIKE INTO BANDAMA CRATER, GRAN CANARIA WITH TOURS BY LOCALS

All seven islands in the Canary Islands archipelago are volcanic. I recently visited the Canary Island of Gran Canaria during a cruise. Gran Canaria has a volcano crater which you can hike into. It's called Bandama Crater and the company Tours by Locals (which offers guided hikes/activities/experiences across the world) offers a hike into this caldera. But yikes! Did I actually dare to enter this volcano? Watch the video to find out and to see what it's like...all the while praying that it doesn't erupt like it did 2k years ago! You'll see lush vegetation, lots of volcanic ash, a cactus parasite which is a natural dye/colorant, me trying the fruit from a prickly pear cactus - and learning how to open one without getting lots of needles stuck into you. Leading this Tours by Locals hike was a local guide called Guillermo who was amazing. He even took us to a vineyard and winery afterwards. The Canary Islands make some excellent volcanic wines. The winery was called Bodega Sanjuan and their wines are not only delicious, but organic too. I thoroughly recommend this hike/experience with Tours by Locals. Guillermo picked us up from the cruise port (we had arrived on a cruise ship) and he was so brilliant and knowledgeable. This was a really great adventure. It's called 'Walk inside the volcano'.
