Today the Celebrity Apex docks in Stavanger's Vågen port, We will be departing on a ship excursion, a small boat cruise along the Lysefjord (or Lysefjorden in Norwegian). This is a stunning fjord located a short distance from Stavanger With a length of around 26 miles it is known for its dramatic cliffs, towering peaks, and beautiful deep waters. The name "Lysefjord" translates to "light fjord," referring to the lightly colored granite rock that dominates the landscape. The fjord was formed during the last Ice Age by glacial erosion, leaving behind steep granite walls that rise vertically out of the water. The combination of rugged mountains, pristine waters, and lush greenery is what makes Lysefjord a spectacular natural attraction. Whilst there we visit a number of the natural attractions that make Lysefjord such a sought after place to come; Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) One of the most famous landmarks of Norway, a massive cliff that rises about 2000 above the fjord. The flat-topped rock formation offers breathtaking views and is a popular destination for hikers from around the world. Today we look up from the cruise boat at this awesome spectacle Fantahålå (Vagabond’s Cave) a small, mysterious cave that has an intriguing history tied to stories of outlaws or vagabonds who once took refuge there to escape from the tax man. Its location in the rugged granite wall overlooking the fjord makes it striking. Hengjanefossen a stunning waterfall and one of the most visually striking waterfalls in the area While smaller in scale compared to some of Norway’s more famous waterfalls it offers breathtaking views and adds to the dramatic beauty of the rugged landscape. The sheer granite walls drop 1300 feet drop, seeing it from a cruise boat means we get up close, really close as the captain pushes the bow into the water. Lysefjord is a stunning place to visit and in this video we end up at a small local restaurant with waffles, jam and cream making a fitting snack before commencing our return to stavanger.
