Here's one secret of the cruise ship MDR that you probably don't know that works well some of the time and that is that you can order a meal to go and take it back to your stateateroom to eat.

Either if you don't want the MDR experience yourself or if a cabin mate of yours doesn't, you can order for them and they'll put a lid on it to keep it covered so you can take it back to your stateateroom.

Now the issue is this can be pretty hit and miss. Some cruise lines will allow it and some won't.
