http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com The old Bryggen wharf area in Bergen is filled with restaurants, shops and houses that are a reminder of the Hanseatic League's trading empire from the 14th to the mid-16th centuries. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has been completely rebuilt in the same style as then since fire after fire ravaged the old wooden houses. A short walk from the Best Western Hordaheimen, past the big "I" (Information) Office and into the covered fish market to gape at a gigantic Monkfish head and huge cod that can weigh up to 60 kilos/120 pounds. Not much time spent walking around since the weather didn't cooperate but still enough to get the flavor of Bergen before heading over to the Hurtigruten pier.
