We have booked a Tripadvisor tour of the city to explore Buenos Aires' tapestry of history, culture, and vibrant neighbourhoods. This includes iconic landmarks like รง drawing visitors to its revitalised waterfront. Once a bustling port, Puerto Madero now boasts sleek modern architecture, upscale restaurants, scenic promenade which nestle against a backdrop of historic buildings. We admire the graceful Puente de la Mujer bridge (Woman's Bridge) and learn more about this up and coming area. A visit to Plaza de Mayo, the city's central square, offers a glimpse into Argentina's tumultuous past and its ongoing role as a hub for political expression. Bordered by historic buildings and lined with leafy trees, the plaza serves as a focal point for gatherings, protests, and celebrations. We marvelled at the imposing Casa Rosada, the presidential palace known for its distinctive pink hue and where Eva Peron spoke to the people from the balcony. The ceremonial changing of the guard attracts our attention and we follow them to the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral, a majestic neoclassical cathedral where Pope Francis once served as Archbishop. Venturing into the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca, we encounter a vibrant blend of culture, art, and soccer fervour. We wander along Caminito, a lively pedestrian street lined with brightly painted houses, street performers, artists and tango dancers. As we leave we do a quick drop off at the Boca Juniors Stadium, although none of us are football fans we felt we just had to. This excursion allows us to immerse ourselves into the sights and sounds of some iconic Buenos Aires landmarks offering us a rich mix of experiences, from the grandeur of Plaza de Mayo to the bohemian charm of La Boca. Whether you're captivated by the city's political history, architectural marvels, or soccer culture, each destination promises to leave an indelible mark on any adventure, so join us as we explore Buenos Aires. We made a bucket list of places we wanted to visit and Joanne's choice was Antarctica it is a continent that she has always wanted to see but no way was she ever going to go in a zodiac so when we found a scenic Antartica cruise we just had to go. So we booked a cruise with Celebrity Cruises adding on some hotel days at the start and end of the holiday to explore Buenos Aires. Neither of us have been to the places on this itinerary previously. This cruise now means that we have finally visited every continent. So on this adventure we explore on our own and we also take ship excursions to maximise our time and experience. We're never too old to keep exploring, so please join us.
