Creator's Key Takeaways
I really enjoyed Ketchacan today. Even though it was damp and cold for most of the day, we had a great time.
We didn't have a great time. No, I don't know that anybody up there had a great time.
It wasn't a bad day. It was just a disappointing experience. The Crab Shack.
I had a really great time exploring Ketchin and not having a tour today was really relaxing.

Our first port on our Ultimate Alaska Cruise was Ketchikan AK. It was a cool, rainy day, which is not surprising given that Ketchikan lies in a rain forest. First, we dropped off the donation items at the women's shelter. Then we explored downtown Ketchikan. It was cold and damp enough we all wanted a nice warm coffee, so we stumbled across Local Grounds, which was warm, dry, and offered delicious coffee. We slowly shopped our way down the street toward the tunnel and Woodlands. We wanted to go to Woodlands, as we know it's owned by a local Alaskan family, and many of their items are made right there in Ketchikan. They also have cool designs. After making our purchases, we worked our way back toward the Grand Princess. Along the way, we found Alaska Legends, where we popped in for a cider flight and a wine flight. Then we went to 108 Taphouse for delicious cheeseburgers for lunch. Emma wanted to purchase a sweatshirt that she had seen earlier in the day, and then returned to the ship. Mom and I continued on our walk toward Creek Street, as we had never been before. It was really neat, but really crowded. After a quick walk through Parnassus Books, we got back on the Grand Princess, too. It was a shorter day in port, with all ashore called at 7:30am and all aboard called before 3pm! For dinner, we had made reservations to go to the Crab Shack in the buffet. It's an extra cost experience, costing $55 per person plus 18% gratuity. Our experience left a lot to be desired. We did have a conversation with restaurant management later in the cruise, and were refunded for the cost of the experience. I would try it again, but probably not on the Grand Princess.
