Today we are in St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in the U.S., and let me tell you, this place is like stepping straight into a history book Think cobblestone streets, Spanish architecture, luxury hotels, pirate stories, and historic houses all mixed with beach town vibe. We checked out Flagler College, which looks like a palace. It used to be a luxury hotel and now it’s one of the prettiest campuses I’ve ever seen. We walked down St. George Street, which is packed with shops, street performers, and little spots to grab food and drink. At the end was the city gates complete with pirates. We also explored the Castillo de San Marcos, a giant 1600s Spanish fort right on the water, built out of the local Coquina stone. This castle has survived pirates, British invasions, hurricanes... and now, me. It has fantastic views of the bay, men in uniform and the odd cannon or two. Then it is onto the marina for the annual blessing of the fleet before taking in the historic houses in the historic district, If you’re into history, marinas, cute streets, and pirates then this place is 100% worth visiting.
