YouTube Video Description

On June 3, Cunard’s newest ship, the QUEEN ANNE, was christened in Liverpool. Tens of thousands of people flocked to Liverpool Waterfront to attend the historic celebrations, which included performances by the famous Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. The event on stage was hosted by musician Matt Willis and TV presenter Emma Willis led the event on stage. In view of Cunard’s long association with the city of Liverpool, the city was appointed as godmother for the QUEEN ANNE. The city was represented by 5 prominent women from Liverpool: Spice Girl Melanie C., broadcaster Ngunan Adamu, restaurant owner Natalie Haywood, music and culture legend Jayne Casey and British Olympic heptathlete Katharina Johnson-Thomson. Liverpool was the founding place of Cunard. Cunard’s first transatlantic voyage started here in July 1840. Liverpool was also Cunard’s headquarters for 128 years. The five icons celebrated this special christening of the QUEEN ANNE together with Cunard President Katie McAlister and Captain Inger Klein Thorhauge. The christening ceremony began with a unique performance by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, which captivated the audience’s senses with powerful yet delicate melodies. The traditional smashing of the champagne bottle against the ship completed the moment of christening and wished the ship and its crew good luck on their future voyages. As the highlight of the program, opera superstar Andrea Bocelli closed the event with an unforgettable performance of his legendary song „It’s Time to Say Goodbye“. 0:00 QUEEN ANNE arriving at Liverpool 3:44 the godmothers 3:53 speech by Katie McAllister, president of Cunard 4:21 the godmothers - one by one 4:45 speech by Captain Inger Klein-Thorhauge 5:20 preparing for the christening 5:42 the christening + bottle smash 6:05 the party goes on 6:30 bottle smash - slow motion 6:53 sketches Image Credits: Cunard Mark McNulty Chris Ison Gareth Jones Stratus Imagery #queenanne #cunard #liverpool #liverpoolnews
