YouTube Video Description

In the bustling heart of Buenos Aires stretches Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world. Join us we drive down it and take in the majestic Obelisco de Buenos Aires which dominates the skyline, an emblematic monument rising nearly 70 meters high. Erected in 1936 to commemorate the city's 400th anniversary, the obelisk stands as a proud symbol of Argentine heritage and serves as a focal point for cultural events, celebrations and has been used to bring attention to a number of worthy causes. Just a stone's throw away from Avenida 9 de Julio lies El Ateneo Grand Splendid, a breathtaking bookstore housed within a former Opera house. Step inside to discover towering shelves of books amidst a classic and well restored theatre of ornate balconies, frescoed ceilings, and plush red velvet curtains. Continuing the journey through Buenos Aires, we encounter the striking Floralis Genérica, a mesmerizing steel and aluminum sculpture located in Plaza de las Naciones Unidas. Designed by Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano, this giant metallic flower opens and closes with the sun, symbolizing the rebirth of each day. However when we visit it looks very forlorn as the winds of December 2023 have taken a heavy toil and one gigantic petal lays on the ground. Finally a serene escape from the urban hustle and something a bit different, Jardín Japonés offers a tranquil oasis inspired by Japanese garden design. We were able to meander along winding paths, past tranquil ponds, and bonsai trees, immersing ourselves in the harmony of Japanese aesthetics, buy boy was it hot. After a day of exploration, we returned to the elegant comfort of Carles Hotel, where local design meets refined luxury. We show you around the public areas and our spacious room. From its central location to its attentive service and great breakfasts, Carles Hotel offers a great experience in the heart of Buenos Aires. Finally it is a culinary delight at Basa, a renowned restaurant serving contemporary Argentine cuisine with a creative twist. It made a memorable dining experience, reflecting the culinary diversity and gastronomic excellence of Buenos Aires. We made a bucket list of places we wanted to visit and Joanne's choice was Antarctica it is a continent that she has always wanted to see but no way was she ever going to go in a zodiac so when we found a scenic Antartica cruise we just had to go. So we booked a cruise with Celebrity Cruises adding on some hotel days at the start and end of the holiday to explore Buenos Aires. Neither of us have been to the places on this itinerary previously. This cruise now means that we have finally visited every continent. So on this adventure we explore on our own and we also take ship excursions to maximise our time and experience. We're never too old to keep exploring, so please join us.
