We return from our Lysefjord excursion to Stavanger where the Celebrity Apex is moored. It is a beautiful coastal city known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and its proximity to stunning natural landscapes. As the fourth-largest city in Norway, Stavanger is a dynamic blend of old-world charm and modern development, making it a popular destination for tourists. We take a stroll through it's beautiful streets and find some old favourites; Vågen, the heart of the city’s social and cultural life, lined with restaurants, cafés, and shops, there are beautiful views of the harbour especially during summer The city is known for its street art and hosts the annual Nuart Festival, attracting international artists who transform the city’s walls into open-air galleries. Near where the Celebrity Apex is moored is Gamle Stavanger (Old Stavanger) a well-preserved historic district, thanks to one man who sought to preserve them. It is Europe’s largest collection of wooden houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. With around 170 white-painted, traditional Norwegian wooden homes, this charming area offers a glimpse into the city’s past and is perfect for a scenic walk along cobbled streets. Stavanger is often referred to as the "Oil Capital of Norway" because of its central role in the country's oil and gas industry. The discovery of oil in the North Sea in the 1960s transformed Stavanger into the thriving city it is today.. Stavanger Cathedral (Stavanger Domkirke) built in the 12th century, is one of Norway’s oldest and most beautiful medieval churches it's architecture and historical significance, makes it a key landmark in the city. Stavanger is a colourful city of contrasts, where history meets modern and urban life a real contrast to the stunning natural surroundings. It is then a return to the ship for this early departure which we watch from the Retreat.
