Creator's Key Takeaways

I'm told disembarkcation in Cape Town isn't exactly seamless. It's slow and the traffic around the cruiseport gets bad very fast.

If you're going to ride the cable car, book online and pay for Fast Track. The regular line is slow, the sun is hot, and there's almost no shade.

This is the Boulders Beach penguin colony. Look at all these little guys back there. They're all hanging out doing their penguin things, looking cute.

The museum is powerful. I wish I had longer inside to forge a deeper understanding of the exhibits, but what I did see stuck with me.

Creator's Tips & Advice

Plan ahead for disembarkation in Cape Town to beat the crowds.
Book cable car tickets online and pay for Fast Track to save time.
Visit Boulders Beach early to avoid crowds and see penguins in the wild.
Bargain with vendors at Green Market Square if you're ready for a lively experience.

YouTube Video Description

In this episode of @nowgoseeit I take you with me on an absolutely packed 24-hour layover in Cape Town, South Africa—the final stop after an 11-day Indian Ocean cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line. This video is for anyone trying to figure out what to prioritize with limited time in Cape Town. I hit the major attractions, explore a few less touristy stops, and give you honest feedback about what’s worth your time and what might not be. I cover everything I squeezed into one long day before my flight out the next morning, starting from the moment I disembark from the cruise ship. Expect penguins, a mountaintop, bold neighborhoods, historic museums, shopping streets, and some solid food options. First up: Boulders Beach Penguin Colony. These African penguins aren’t just a photo op—they’re loud, weird, and fun to watch. You’ll see how close you can actually get and why this beach is a must, even if it eats up more time than you’d expect. Next, I take the Table Mountain Cable Car—fast track ticket in hand. If you’re thinking about skipping it or doing it the slow way, don’t. I’ll show you how the rotating car works, the views from the top, and why this might be one of the best skyline attractions out there. From there, it’s on to Bo-Kaap, the Cape Malay neighborhood known for bright houses and complicated history. I visit a small museum, grab lunch and coffee at two good under-the-radar spots, and shop for spices at Atlas Trading Company. I spend the afternoon hitting Long Street, Company’s Garden, and three museums: the Iziko South African Museum, the Slave Lodge, and the District Six Museum. You’ll see how long to spend at each, what to expect, and what’s worth skipping. Then I move on to Greenmarket Square, Castle of Good Hope, and the V and A Waterfront—which is massive, chaotic, and full of surprises. I check out the Watershed Market, Time Out Market, and Oranjezicht City Farm Market for shopping and local finds. I don’t eat at all of them, but I'll walk you through what’s there. Finally, I wrap up at Mojo Market in Sea Point with a bowl of Indonesian nasi goreng that totally delivers. If you’re tired of curated travel-for-tourists vibes, Mojo is more local and casual. Great music, fast eats, and plenty of people-watching.
