We swim with the Manta Rays and check out some of the best beaches in Hawaii on our last few days on the big island. We were sorry to leave after two weeks of exploring the Island of Hawaii, but we did enough to know that we need to come back for another visit and to see the rest. Swimming with the manta rays is a unique and unforgettable experience that you can have on the Big Island of Hawaii. Here's what you need to know: Timing: Manta ray night dives typically start just before sunset, so you can watch the rays feeding on plankton in the water under the cover of darkness. Tour operators: There are several tour operators on the Big Island that offer manta ray night dives. They provide all the necessary equipment including wetsuits, snorkels, and masks. The tours are led by experienced guides who will ensure your safety and provide information about the manta rays. Swimming with the manta rays: The tour boat will anchor in a spot where manta rays are known to congregate. You will then enter the water and hold onto a flotation device with lights that attract plankton. The manta rays will then swim around and sometimes even over you as they feed on the plankton. There are many beaches on the island of Hawaii and some of the smallest are the best. We visit Black Sand Beach 49. It looks like it's a private beach, but it is open to the public. Parking spaces are limited so you need to get an early start to your day. Ohai'ula Beach, also known as Spencer Beach is a county park and at the time of this video, there were no fees to enjoy this park. Restrooms are at the park and are very clean. Hapuna Beach is a state park and fees are required to park a vehicle and enter per person. There is an entry location free of charge through the neighboring hotel and we show how to do that in the video. Pu'ukohola Heiau is a sacred site located on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. Pu'ukohola Heiau was built in the late 18th century by Kamehameha I, the first king of Hawaii. Legend has it that Kamehameha was told by a prophet that if he built a heiau (a Hawaiian temple) dedicated to the war god Ku, he would be successful in his quest to unite the Hawaiian Islands. Kamehameha I used Pu'ukohola Heiau as a spiritual center for his quest to unify the Hawaiian Islands. He eventually succeeded in his goal and became the first king of the unified Kingdom of Hawaii. Today, Pu'ukohola Heiau is open to the public as a National Historic Site. Visitors can explore the temple and learn about its history and significance in Hawaiian culture. And of course, we visit another brewery. The Big Island Brewhaus was just a half hour north of our resort and brewed flavorful beer and served delicious food. Unfortunately, we visited on the tail end of our trip, or else we would have visited multiple times. We hope you enjoyed all 5 parts of our Hawaiian adventure. We had such a great time and can't wait to visit again. https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/parks/hawaii/hapuna-beach-state-recreation-area/ https://bigislandbrewhaus.com/ https://www.seaparadise.com/ https://www.nps.gov/puhe/index.htm https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/koahwhh-hilton-waikoloa-village/ https://dolphinquest.com/ 0:00 Recap 0:25 Dolphins 1:15 Black Sand Beach 49 3:00 Manuela Malasada 5:05 Spencer Beach 6:00 Pu'ukohola Heiau 7:45 Big Island Brewhaus 11:35 Manta Rays' 14:20 Hapuna State Beach 17:35 Lunch from the Island Deli 18:50 Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort Fun Please subscribe to our channel to stay in touch so we can share what we are up to! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYptpWdN5KNCq5pwdvGNrhQ?sub_confirmation=1 #travelvlog #bigisland #mantaray #snorkeling #beaches Facebook: Just Ramblin Around TikTok: @justramblinaround Instagram: @justrambinaround Email: jrawithronandjodi@gmail.com https://share.epidemicsound.com/cyumoq ****About**** We are Ron and Jodi. We will try to show as much of our adventures, tips and reviews as we can through our journey practicing for retirement. This channel will be about adventures big and small, weekend getaways traveling in the motorhome exploring our region to flying away on extended vacations discovering new destinations. We hope to inspire others to make time to travel, explore and discover what our land has to offer. We love to check out breweries, restaurants, local hikes in the area as well as traveling away to see what other destinations have to show us. We take our dogs as much as we can, but some areas aren't made for our furry kiddos. Not every video will be an award winner but all we need is someone to laugh and enjoy the ride along the way.
