A Magical Day Cruising the Hebrides | Dolphins, Whales & Wildlife on The Majestic Line’s Glen Massan

Join me for my first full day cruising the Hebrides on board Glen Massan, one of The Majestic Line’s charming small ships based in Oban, Scotland. This is small ship cruising at its very best — intimate, scenic and full of unforgettable moments. The Majestic Line operates four small vessels sailing Scotland’s west coast, the Inner and Outer Hebrides, Mull and Iona. Each ship offers a warm Scottish welcome, locally inspired menus, and a relaxed, homely feel. Glen Massan, originally a converted fishing trawler, carries just 11 guests and 4 crew, creating an incredibly friendly and personal atmosphere. We began the morning anchored in Loch Spelve, before pulling up the anchor and sailing to Duart Castle for our first tender ride of the trip! Unfortunately, the castle was closed and the rain arrived, so we headed back to the boat to warm up with a delicious lunch of mushroom risotto with roasted butternut squash and pea shoots. In the afternoon, we visited Carna for a wildlife tender trip where we spotted a stag, heron and some cows! Back on board, things got even more exciting — we saw dolphins, a minke whale, and even sea otters playing near the boat. We dropped anchor for the night in Loch na Droma Buidhe, where dinner was another feast: Main: Roast pork loin with heritage carrots, parsnips, cauliflower purée, sautéed chard, roast potatoes and apple sauce Dessert: Bread and butter pudding with custard Sadly, it was too cloudy for any Northern Lights tonight — but what a truly magical day at sea!
