ad Our final full day on this Svalbard expedition cruise brought a Polar Plunge, our last Arctic landing and an unforgettable night sleeping outside in an igloo aboard National Geographic Resolution. Day seven took us into Hornsund, the southernmost fjord in Svalbard, where we headed ashore at Gåshamna for our final hike of the expedition. Back on board came a slightly unexpected announcement. It was time for the Polar Plunge. I love cold water swimming, but the coldest water I had previously managed was 14°C. This was going to be rather different! Mr NCC decided to join me, and into the Arctic water we both went. The day also gives you another look at life aboard National Geographic Resolution, including a behind the scenes galley tour and the final expedition recap and Captain’s farewell. But there was one final experience still to come. After putting our names on the waiting list at the beginning of the expedition, we received an invitation to spend our final night sleeping in one of National Geographic Resolution’s outdoor igloos. After a dip in the hot tub, we climbed into bed and watched the Arctic scenery drift past the window. Quite a way to end our Svalbard adventure.
