Our day in Ålesund, Norway didn't go as planned! We booked a cruise excursion to hike the famous Sukkertoppen (Sugar Loaf Mountain), but after a wildfire closed the trail, our guide surprised us with a completely different adventure. Instead, we climbed Myklebusthornet on nearby Ellingsøya—a much steeper and more challenging hike than we expected. The climb tested us, but the panoramic views over Ålesund, the islands, and the Sunnmøre Alps made every step worthwhile. The hike to Myklebusthornet offers several route options, with round trips typically ranging from about 5–7 km and around 300–400 meters of elevation gain. After returning from the mountain, we take a relaxing walk through the area around the Ålesund cruise port to enjoy a little more of this beautiful Norwegian coastal city before heading back to the ship.
