Creator's Key Takeaways
Bodrum is an easy cruise port to explore without an organized excursion. But, the center of town is slightly further from the ship than it first appears.
The parking garage was functioning very successfully as a parking garage. As a visitor attraction, it needed work. This was the dud of the day.
By the time we finished the towers, gardens, shipwreck exhibits, peacocks, and viewpoints, Bodrum Castle had easily become the highlight of our day.
Bodrum was one of the most varied port days on this cruise.

Bodrum is one of the easiest ports on this cruise to explore without booking an excursion. You can walk right off the ship, follow the bay into town, and reach the main waterfront and old town area in about fifteen to twenty minutes. We start at the cruise port, talk through the walk into Bodrum, show the easy beach option at Kumbahçe Sahili, continue along the waterfront promenade, and explore the covered shopping arcades near the shore. Then we visit Bodrum Castle, also known as the Castle of Saint Peter, and walk through the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology. The museum is spread throughout the castle, with exhibits on shipwrecks, ancient cargo, glass, amphorae, the Serçe Limanı shipwreck, the Carian Princess, and plenty of castle views over the harbor. From there, we walk to the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. There isn’t a giant monument standing there today, but it’s still pretty incredible to stand on the original site of something that important. We also test out the Bodrum Bazaar, which several travel blogs recommended. For us, it was the dud of the day. Maybe we missed something, or maybe it wasn’t fully operating when we visited, but what we found was mostly a parking garage and a few small shops selling knockoff shoes and sports jerseys. The good news is that the walk led us to Cevat Şakir Caddesi, which ended up being our favorite shopping street in Bodrum. If you want less touristy shopping, better prices, and more practical stores, this is the street to add to your route. We finish the day at Artemis Cafe and Restaurant near the beach with local cider, water views, and a much-needed sit-down before heading back to the ship. If you’re planning a cruise stop in Bodrum, this video will help you decide what’s worth your time, what’s walkable from the port, where to shop, where to skip, and how to make the most of a one-day visit.
