The port of Durban, South Africa has notified the captain of the Queen Mary 2 that the Harbor Pilot will not be able to board the ship the traditional way by way of a Pilot boat, due to undisclosed reasons. The Durban port authorities have informed the captain that the Harbor Pilot will board the Queen Mary 2 via helicopter. The helicopter will not land on the Queen Mary 2. However it will hover over the ship while the Harbor Pilot is lowered down to the ship. The captain has instructed all crew and passengers to stay away from balconies and outside decks between 3:30am and 4:00am due to the potential of downdraft danger of the helicopter's blades.
