The Carnival Mardi Gras set sail on its first cruise on July 31, 2021, and John Heald and Christine Duffy welcomed its first guests. The two cut the ribbon to the Carnival Mardi Gras ship in Carnival's new Terminal 3, built specifically for the Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras is on its first cruise to sail from Port Canaveral, Florida with passengers, following the extended cruising shutdown. The Mardi Gras is the first mega ship for Carnival, featuring six distinct areas and countless new dining options. After boarding the Mardi Gras, I head to my balcony cabin (stateroom) for a brief tour, and then head to check out The French Quarter, a new area on Mardi Gras which features Emeril's Bistro and the new Fortune Teller bar, in addition to the Brass Magnolia bar. I then head up to the Lido deck on Mardi Gras to have lunch at Shaq's Big Chicken, the first of these establishments on a Carnival cruise ship.
