The Harrah's Casino in Cherokee North Carolina is a gem for those who live on the East Coast. It is the first casino to open in the state and has been open since 1997. Believe it or not, it's operated by Caesar's -- but is COMPLETELY owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Besides slot machines and table games, it offers amenities like a spa, 18-hole golf course, fine dining and BIG name entertainment. Plus, the grounds are absolutely gorgeous! Cherokee sits at the southern entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, making it a great hub for nature lovers and hikers. It is home to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians which has its own laws and governance. Just minutes from the casino, you can spot wild elk that were reintroduced to the area in 2001. The town is known as the fly-fishing capital of the southeast because of its lush streams and incredible tournaments.
