Considering a cruise from Venice but worried because it departs from Trieste or Ravenna?

Since the ban on larger cruise ships in the Venice lagoon a few years ago, most large ships now depart from Trieste or Ravenna. Whilst Trieste is slightly closer both are a lengthy drive from Venice. Don't be afraid of this. As we discovered today both cities are beautiful stopover ports pre/post cruise and a stay in these ports will very much enhance your cruise experience.
