If you're going to the fabulous Greek island of Corfu then it's definitely worth spending a day exploring its stunning capital Corfu Town (called Kerkyra in Greek!) It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and is...just...stunning. This place took my breath away. From the Old Fortress (you must climb up to the lighthouse for great views) to the Liston (a French built arcade similar to the Rue de Rivoli in Paris) to the old town, which is a maze of narrow, cobbled pedestrianized streets where washing is hung high to dry and architecture is Venetian style, with lots of multicolored pastel facades. There's great shopping in bijou shops (wood/wooden objects are particularly great) and trying some Ionian ginger beer is a must. The British introduced it in 1814 and ginger beer is now the island's national drink! If you have time it's also worth heading ten minutes south of Corfu Town to the Kanoni peninsular where you'll find the tiny little island monastery called Vlacherna. This place is special, trust me. As is the whole of the island. In a few days' time I'll be posting a full Corfu Island video about the best things to do on this largest of Greece's Ionian Islands. The famous British author Gerald Durrell once lived here and loved it - indeed his books inspired the recent ITV hit drama 'The Durrells'. Corfu Town is a popular cruise port and when cruises start sailing again, this is an excellent port to have on your itinerary! Further Information: I had a brilliant guide in Corfu Town called Anna Vasilaki who can be found on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008382458338 I stayed at the MarBella Corfu hotel (twenty minutes south of Corfu Town) and it was gorgeous: https://www.marbella.gr/marbella-corfu/ I've done another video on Corfu which includes footage of the MarBella Corfu hotel - it should follow on at the end of this video.
