Hakodate Japan Cruise Port Stop | Cruise Ship Tour Hakodate, Japan Highlights Tour Begin right off the ship at the Hakodate Morning Market (Asaichi), you can explore the market with fresh seafood, local produce, and souvenirs. Try the apples! You can also get fresh seafood donburi (rice bowl) or squid sashimi, a local specialty. Remember proper etiquette is to sit and eat, not walk and eat. Our next stop was Mount Hakodate. We took the Mount Hakodate Ropeway to the summit for panoramic views of the city and the harbor. The observation deck is also famous for its night view, considered one of the best in Japan. Our last tour stop was Goryokaku Park and Tower. We went up Goryokaku Tower for a bird’s-eye view of the park and the unique star shape of the fort. You can see colored trees in the fall. The park is also known for beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. Listed below are other suggested places we did not have time to visit: Motomachi District Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden Hakodate City Museum of Northern Peoples Yunokawa Onsen Onuma Quasi-National Park Trappistine Monastery Hakodate Bay Area Tips for Visiting Hakodate: Food: Don’t miss local specialties like Hakodate ramen, fresh seafood, and dairy products from Hokkaido. Weather: Hakodate is in the northern part of Japan and can be rainy in the fall, cold in winter and mild in the summer, so pack accordingly. Language: Basic English is understood in tourist areas, but learning a few Japanese phrases can enhance your experience. Transportation: The city has a convenient tram system. Purchase a day pass for unlimited rides. (We did not have the opportunity ride the tram) Check out these Japan Cruise videos next! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeCIqOzc7W_NB7k9GI7bmkD41xP05U1mc Enjoy Hakodate!
