YouTube Video Descriptionโ
Kochi and Aki Japan Cruise Port Stop On this tour you will learn about samurai history of Japan and experience urban and rural parts of the country. This tour included a Japanese style lunch. Immerse yourself in Kochi's rich samurai history on this journey past the town's iconic landmarks. First stop is to Kochi Castle, one of Japan's few authentic castles, where you'll marvel at an incredible view of the city. Navigate the 500+ steps thru the park and up into the castle. On your way thru town you will pass by shops, businesses and the Harimaya Bridge According to legend, a young monk called Junshin was seen buying a kanzashi hairpin for his beloved Ouma, a merchantโs daughter, at a shop near Harimaya Bridge. This was the beginning of the end for the star-crossed lovers, for at that time monks were forbidden to have relationships or marry. As punishment, Junshin was exiled and Ouma was sent far away, never to meet again. Next, enjoy a break at a local restaurant where you'll savor a Japanese-style lunch. After lunch the tour continues to the Aki District's Nora Clock and its samurai house. Walk the Aki District area with your guide where you'll admire Nora Clock and see the ruins of the Aki Castle. The clock worked for over 120 years before stopping. Visit an old samurai house and learn about how the samurai lived in the 19th century. This is also home to Mitsubishi founder Yataro Iwasaki. Unfortunately our tour ran out of time, but your tour may include a visit to the Japanese Samurai bronze statue at Katsurahama Beach. The samurai, Sakamoto Ryoma, is dressed in a Japanese Samurai Kimono. From the beach, you can take in distant views of the Pacific Ocean.
