Hi, I'm Sheri from CruiseTipsTV. Today I have some tips for avoiding illness while cruising-- We like to call this the Germaphobe edition Okay, Here's our big tip for this episode. Are you ready? ... Wash your hands. Yup, we know, it's advice torn from the pages of "No-Brainer magazine". It's good advice, but it's advice we sometimes can't follow. It's not always possible or convenient to wash your hands. So here are some other things you can do. Always carry hand-sanitizing wipes with you. Most ships provide hand sanitizing gel dispensers, and while these may be effective, they are not as convenient as single use wipes, and I personally don't like the sticky feel of gels. As soon as you board, you can Wipe down your stateroom with sanitizing wipes. This should include door knobs, faucets, remote controls, light switches, bathroom surfaces, and table tops. When out and about be aware when you're touching things like hand railings, doorknobs, elevator buttons, and **cringe** ... the serving utensils at the buffet line. Obviously, it's not possible to avoid touching these things, but again, be aware. Sanitize as soon as possible, and keep your hands away from your face. if you have kids, invest in some gentle hand wipes for them as well. After washing your hands in restrooms, if possible use a paper towel to turn off faucets and open doors Drink lots of water to help flush germs out of your system as quickly as possible. Pack slippers and shower shoes, and avoid walking barefoot on the carpet Bring your own pillowcases. We usually bring our own pillows as well, but if that seems over the top, a pillowcase is the next best thing. lastly, remember how important it is to get lots of sleep to keep those immunities up! That's it for this episode. Be sure to check us out on twitter @CruiseTipsTV. Now get out there and cruise, and stay healthy. If you like these tips, please like and subscribe. And hey, why not share these tips with a fellow cruiser? We have more tips on the way. Until then, we'll see you on the high seas
