Originally introduced as a “super-sized” cavalcade featuring nearly 30 Disney and Pixar characters, the procession brought together characters from classic Disney stories, Pixar films and newer animated adventures. The cavalcade continued a style of daytime character entertainment that became especially important when Walt Disney World reopened in July 2020. With traditional parades and character greetings temporarily paused, Magic Kingdom introduced shorter processions that appeared along the park’s traditional parade route throughout the day. Earlier Magic Kingdom character offerings included Mickey & Friends Cavalcade, A Goofy Cavalcade, Fantasyland Friends Cavalcade, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure and The Royal Princess Processional. Seasonal Halloween and Christmas cavalcades also brought specially themed characters, costumes and floats to the park. These smaller processions allowed guests to see Disney characters throughout the day without waiting for one large scheduled parade. Their popularity helped establish the modern Magic Kingdom cavalcade format that eventually led to Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade.
