Here’s our real-day route with prices, timing, kid-friendly stops, and easy tips so you can copy it. Our game plan (family of 6): - Skipped the ship shuttle and grabbed a van taxi at the pier - €25 to Centro (we originally asked for that) - Then added €15 to continue up the hill → €40 total to the Castillo de Gibralfaro top entrance Why start at the top? You get the views first and walk down at your own pace back toward the ship. - Castillo/Gibralfaro: sweeping views of the bullring, port, and city walls; breezy and beautiful. - Entrance was ~€3.50 pp (adult pricing can vary—bring small cash/card). - Walked down past the Alcazaba/Roman Theatre, wandered Old Town (cafés, shopping, lively streets). - Lunch stop: Peruvian restaurant (“Pinka Peruvian”) — fresh ceviche & lomo saltado vibes that everyone loved. - Beach time at Playa de la Malagueta: loungers were €9 each (we paid €27 for 3 chairs + shade). Great playground by the sand. - Walked back to the ship (5–10 minutes along the waterfront). - Made it right at back-on-board (17:30) 😅 and enjoyed a golden hour sailaway. Bonus: neat look at the pilot boat and a quick MSC deck tour (note: smoking areas are more common on MSC vs many US lines). Quick Tips Best start: Taxi directly to Gibralfaro top gate (say “Castillo de Gibralfaro entrada arriba”). Then walk down via the paths toward the Roman Theatre/Alcazaba and into Centro. Budget snapshot (family of 6): - Taxi to top (pier → Centro → top): €40 total - Castle entry: ~€3.50 pp - Beach loungers: €9 per chair - Beach vs shuttle: To Malagueta Beach, just walk. Save the shuttle for mobility needs. Kids: Playground by the beach, street performers in the evening, and plenty of gelato stops. Timing: Málaga is compact.
